Macondo Lofts

Year: 2015-2018
Location: Cali.

Macondo Lofts is an interior design project of/by Urbanizadora Metro Cuadrado. The overall area is about 26 sq.m divided in two rooms and a bathroom. Whereas the bathroom is a separate space isolated by a door, the rest of the area is divided only by a portion of wall and a structural beam, leaving a permanent communication between the bedroom and the living room. This allows a certain degree of flexibility when placing furniture and zoning the space. Also, the project took into account the fact that, in small dwellings, the furnishing is the main responsible of giving order to the space, therefore, a whole set of furniture was designed considering the paths, rhythms and distances in the inhabitant activities.

Living-/dining room – Wood and metal details were used in conjunction with a mixed color scheme of neutral and saturated tones. The objective here was to set a warm, more comfortable atmosphere that would contrast with the cold, industrial look of the concrete floor and walls

Designed elements: Library / TV cabinet, bar stools

Bedroom and workspace – since both are in a single room, a division of the space was required. In this case, color blocking and hanging lights were used to visually divide the zones instead of actual walls. The lightening was placed at both sides of the bed, using metallic structures with an elongated form that would strengthen the sense of verticality.
